Hello, Nihao and Marhaban

I'm Haomiao, a Software Development Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Previously, I graduated from Cornell University's Cornell Tech campus with a M.S. degree in Information Systems and Applied Information Sciences (with a concentration in Connective Media). I have been advised by Prof. Mor Naaman and Prof. Nicola Dell on my reserach project centering on the relationship between YouTube's recommendation system, political extremism and misinformation. Prior to Cornell, I graduated from New York University (NYU) with a B.A. degree in Computer Science and in Middle Eastern Studies.

I am interested in creating all sorts of programs for social good, designing useable & useful interfaces, and creating data-driven inferences and analyses. I'm proficient in TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Python, websockets, AWS services, security best practices, technical writing, and Arabic. (Ok, I know I'm not *that* proficient with Arabic yet - but I'm getting there!)

When I'm not working/studying, you can find me reading, traveling, or sampling coffee and bubble teas here in the DC area.
